An illegally constructed commercial complex worth around Rs 1 crore, allegedly belonging to a drug peddler, was demolished on Saturday in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Police in Anantnag supervised the demolition of the illegal commercial complex comprising 15 shops at Waghama in Bijbehara. The property, estimated to be worth nearly Rs 1 crore, belonged to an alleged drug peddler, Sajad Ahmad Rather, a police spokesperson said.
An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered against Rather at Yaripora police station, the spokesperson added. During verification, authorities found that the shopping complex had been illegally constructed on government land, he said.
Following due legal procedure and in coordination with civil authorities, the structure was demolished as part of the ongoing crackdown aimed at dismantling the financial networks of drug syndicates operating in the district, the spokesperson added.
