Continuing its crackdown on ‘chitta’ (heroin) and those involved in its illegal trade, the state Cabinet on Monday decided to disqualify such individuals from contesting Panchayati Raj elections.
During the Cabinet meeting, the government resolved to introduce a Bill in the ongoing Assembly session to bar persons linked to heroin trafficking from participating in the upcoming local body elections.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the establishment of Bio-Physics Departments in three medical institutions — Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, and Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College.
The Cabinet also granted approval for the engagement of 2,068 teachers across various subjects for 150 CBSE-affiliated schools in the state.
