India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Punjab and Haryana and a yellow alert for Chandigarh after the temperature surpassed 40 degrees Celsius, warning the residents about the possibility of further temperature increases, particularly on May 18 and 19.
The Meteorological Department in Chandigarh has released an orange alert for the southern regions of Punjab and Haryana, indicating a "severe heat wave," and a yellow alert for Chandigarh, forecasting "heatwave conditions."
An orange alert advises people to "be prepared," while a yellow alert suggests they should "stay updated."
This heat wave alert comes as Tricity, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to surpass 44 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
Punjab's Pathankot recorded the highest maximum temperature at 42.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Bathinda at 42.6 degrees Celsius and Patiala at 42.4 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Nuh saw a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius, while Sirsa recorded 43.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
