The Indian government has commenced the development of a significant ropeway project adjacent to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh.
The project, spanning 5.2 kilometers and costing Rs 522 crore, will connect the renowned Tawang Monastery to PT Tso Lake, with completion expected within the next three years.
According to reports, invitations for tender were issued on March 15.
Situated at an elevation of 10,000 feet, the 400-year-old Tawang Monastery stands as the largest in the country and the second-largest in Asia.
Strategically vital for India, the ropeway will operate in close proximity to the China and Bhutan borders, approximately two kilometers from Tawang Town.
PT Tso Lake, positioned 18 kilometers away from Tawang at an altitude of 12,000 feet, is a half-hour drive from the town en route to the Bumla Pass near LAC.
With the new ropeway, the journey from Tawang Monastery to the lake will be reduced to just five minutes. Currently, there exists a ropeway connecting the Tawang Monastery to Gyangong Ani Gonpa, a nunnery situated approximately 10 kilometers away.
The anticipated development is poised to invigorate tourism in the region, providing visitors with enhanced access to explore the scenic landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, as expressed by a senior official.
