India and Myanmar defence officials held the Second Annual Defence Dialogue on Thursday in Naypyidaw. The meeting was chaired by the Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, and the Chief of Armed Forces Training, Maj Gen Kyaw Ko Htike.
Training, capacity building, post-earthquake aid, and cultural goodwill visits were the main topics of discussion.
India and Myanmar have a robust and diverse defence partnership that is centred on maritime cooperation, training, border security, and counter-insurgency. In order to strengthen the capabilities of the Myanmar Armed Forces, India provides training programs, joint exercises like IMBAX, intelligence sharing, and support for Myanmar's military modernisation.
In addition to maritime security and involvement in multilateral forums such as the ADMM-Plus, a 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Border Cooperation aids in coordinating security along the shared border.
