India Post opened a Gen Z Post Office extension counter at CMS College, Kottayam, Kerala. This is to mark a creative shift in how younger generations access postal services. NR Giri, Director Postal Services (DPS), Kerala Central Region, inaugurated the facility formally.
The motto 'Of the students, by the students, for the students' was the cornerstone on which the entire project was built. The entire area was conceptualised, designed, and created in collaboration by CMS College students along with officials from India Post. This collaboration provided a perfect fusion of functionality related to service aspects, creativity, and sustainability.
This new post office counter is a lively, young, and nature-themed space in which indoor and outdoor elements blend together. It serves as a very functional contemporary postal outlet, a work café, a green retreat, and a community gathering point all at once and remains true to the college's value for environmental harmony.
A seating area with picnic-table arrangements and a vertical garden creates a refreshing and calm atmosphere. Seating made from recycled tires further enforces students' commitment to sustainability.
A counter ledge with charging points serves students who use laptops and mobile devices. A space to relax and retreat, having a bookshelf containing books and board games, combined with an indoor reading nook.
The facility has a fully equipped Multi-Purpose Counter Machine booking station, with packaging materials and a MyStamp printer for added service convenience. Artworks created by the students and staff adorn the walls, celebrating India Post, the cultural heritage of Kottayam, commonly known as the Land of Letters, Kerala's traditions, the ethos of CMS College, and nature-inspired themes.
This counter extension in Gen Z style transcends mere functionality as a service point but is a dynamic hub of work, meeting, creation, relaxing, and community engagement, moving flawlessly ahead with the legacy of India Post.
