Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced on Thursday that the state will be the site for India's first indigenously developed semiconductor chip. Addressing a gathering in Nadiad town after hoisting the national flag on Independence Day, Patel revealed that Gujarat has attracted Rs 1 lakh crore in investments in the electronics and semiconductor sectors.
Patel highlighted the role of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in attracting investment in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors. "The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit held earlier this year was instrumental in attracting new investment in emerging sectors like AI and semiconductor," he said.
In addition to the semiconductor chip announcement, Patel revealed an increase in the income limit for free ration under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). The monthly income limit for eligibility will be raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.
"In January, PM Narendra Modi extended the tenure of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for another five years so that the poor people get free food grains. To cover more people under this scheme, I announce to increase the monthly income limit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000," Patel stated.
The Chief Minister also announced a Rs 5,000 crore allocation to strengthen and expand road infrastructure. Speaking about the state’s future goals, Patel mentioned India's economic aspirations.
"India became the fifth largest economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and now the PM has resolved to make India the third largest economy. The PM has given us the target of making India a developed country by 2047, when India will be celebrating 100 years of independence. Gujarat is committed to being a leading state in achieving the target of Viksit Bharat by 2047," he said.
Gujarat aims to lead in the renewable energy sector with a target of installing 100 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Patel noted that the state is also a leader in solar rooftop schemes, aiming to cover 10 lakh houses under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
"Gujarat is also a leader in solar rooftop schemes in the country. This year, we have set the target of covering 10 lakh houses under the PM Surya Ghar scheme of providing free electricity to people," he said.
Under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, Gujarat has planted over 7.25 crore trees, ranking second in the country for green cover, Patel added.
