Farmers in Haryana have finalised plans for a three-day “Mahapadav” (mass sit-in) protest at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s official residence in Kurukshetra from February 23 to 25, strongly opposing the recent India-US trade deal.

The decision was taken at a detailed meeting held at Dera KarSewa, attended by representatives of various farmer organisations.

Leaders addressing the media included Jagdeep Singh Aulakh (state core committee member, BKU Sir Chhotu Ram), BhadurMehla (spokesperson, BKU Sir Chhotu Ram), MandeepNathwan (state president, PagriSambhalJattaKisan Sangharsh Samiti), AmarjeetMohri, and other senior figures. They announced that farmers from across Haryana will gather at Devi Lal Park on February 23 before marching to the Chief Minister’s residence to begin the sit-in.

On the second day (February 24), a torch march will be held in Kurukshetra city, with thousands expected to participate throughout the three-day protest.

Jagdeep Singh Aulakh said, “Part of the programme includes burning of effigies of US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini across all districts on February 17 and 18.”

He criticised the trade deal, warning it would prove “catastrophic” for Indian farmers and accusing the central government of conspiring against them while favouring corporate interests.

BKU spokesperson BhadurMehla alleged, “The government’s promise to double farmers’ income has instead doubled their debt in recent years.”

Farmer leaders warned of a large-scale movement to halt the trade deal, with Haryana set to lead the charge under the morcha banner.
