IndiGo flight disruptions continued at Srinagar International Airport on Monday, with 16 flights cancelled by morning, officials said.
According to IndiGo officials at the airport, the carrier was scheduled to operate 32 inbound and 32 outbound flights on Monday. However, due to ongoing disruptions, 16 flights (8 arrivals and 8 departures) have been cancelled as a result of roster changes that affected countrywide operations.
Besides IndiGo, all other major airlines were reportedly operating on their regular schedule, staff members confirmed.
Since December 1, Srinagar airport has witnessed more than 58 flight cancellations from the country’s top air carrier, IndiGo, and five more from other airlines, bringing the total cancellations mark to 63 on December 8.
Further disruptions are expected to continue through December 8, which is likely to add more by the end of Monday.
Meanwhile, IndiGo aims to restore its 95 per cent routine operations by December 10-15. The continued disruptions prompted protests at the airport from the passengers, especially Saudi-bound Umrah Pilgrims.
Hundreds of pilgrims and other passengers have demanded a refund mandated by the Civil Aviation Ministry by the evening of Dec 7.
Additionally, the flight cost in the alternate airlines has now gone up by two to three times despite the aviation ministry cap. Observers have accused IndiGo of purposely creating chaos in a bid to avoid implementing the latest rules issued by the Indian aviation ministry and DGCA.
