Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has criticised the BJP government, stating that industries are steadily leaving Haryana due to its flawed policies. As a result, he said, the state has fallen far behind in employment generation, leading to Haryana topping the charts in unemployment nationwide.
Hooda further pointed out that medium and small-scale industries—already struggling since demonetisation and later hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic—have yet to recover. He blamed the state government for failing to provide any financial relief, concessions, or support to these sectors.
Giving the example of the plywood industry, he said this industry is considered to be the identity of Yamunanagar, but now this industry is migrating towards Uttar Pradesh as the UP government is creating clusters for the wood industry and giving a lot of relaxation to the business. Whereas the BJP government of Haryana has no attention towards this. Due to this, the 380 units which were running here in the year 2017 have now reduced to only 160, and almost half of the units have migrated from here.
The former Chief Miniter said industries of Panchkula are also migrating towards Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, industries of Gurugram and Faridabad are moving towards Noida-Ghaziabad. “Far from bringing new investment, the BJP government is not even able to handle those industries which were established in the state by the Congress government through all efforts,” he said.
Hooda said that during the Congress tenure, Inspector Raj was abolished to promote industries. “Six new IMTs (HSDIC Industrial Areas) were established in the entire state. Big industries like Maruti, Asian Paints, NTPC, Reliance, Honda, IOC, Panasonic, Yokohama, Denso were established in the state and lakhs of youth were given employment. Along with this, Rail Coach Factory and Meham International Airport were also approved,” added.
“In contrast, not a single IMT was established in the 11 years of BJP rule. Not a single big investment came to the state. Due to increasing crime and bad policies of the government, an atmosphere of terror was created in the industry and industries migrated from here. Not only this, projects like Rail Coach Factory and International Airport approved by Congress were also shifted to other states. Due to this, Haryana became the number one state in the country in terms of unemployment, crime, drug addiction, migration and corruption,” he noted.
