Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala has reportedly received a death threat from some unknown person, prompting his son, Karan Chautala, to file a police complaint in Chandigarh.
Karan told mediapersons on Wednesday that the threat came via a voice note on his WhatsApp from an unknown number late Tuesday night. Around 11 pm, he first received a call from an unknown number, which was quickly disconnected. Then the person sent a voice note from the same number, in which the sender used abusive language against his father.
In the message, the unknown sender told Karan to warn his father to "stay out of their way." The message said if he didn’t, he would be sent to the same place as the "pradhan" — referring to INLD state chief Nafe Singh Rathee, who was shot dead in Jhajjar district's Bahadurgarh in February 2024.
“He said my father would be sent to the same place as the ‘pradhan,’” Karan said. The same number also sent a warning to Abhay’s private secretary, telling him this should be taken as the “final warning.”
Karan mentioned this wasn’t the first time his father had received such threats. “In July 2023, a similar threat was made, and the Haryana Police had registered a case. That’s when my father was given Y-category security,” he said.
“Our party state president was killed in 2024 in which killers are still at large, he said. Raising concerns about their safety, Karan urged the police to take swift action. “Our family has consistently spoken out against the drug and the worsening law and order situation in Haryana. We believe we are being targeted for that,” he added.
