Authorities in Doda district on Friday suspended internet services, including in Doda town, Bhaderwah, Bhalesa and Thatri, as a precautionary measure to maintain security. Officials said internet services were completely shut across the district as part of precautionary measures after a youth was killed during a scuffle with SOG personnel late on Thursday night.
The move came after a 30-year-old youth identified as Aarif Hussain was shot dead during an alleged scuffle with three SOG personnel.
Officials later claimed that the youth was killed after he attempted to snatch a weapon from one of the personnel during a night ambush laid by the police personnel.
A religious preacher has also been detained in connection with the incident, police officials said. The detained person's link to the incident was not immediately clear.
Keeping in view the prevailing tensions, the authorities imposed preventive restrictions on the internet to maintain law and order in the district.
