The uneasy calm prevails in the Doda district as the restrictions remain in place on Saturday, while Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh took stock of the main market in the town.
The DC visited the market to assess the availability of the essential supplies and the functioning of routine trade activities.
During the visit, he interacted with shopkeepers and locals and assured them that the administration is committed to ensuring the uninterrupted availability of food grains, medicines, and daily-use commodities. At the same time, he appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony in the district for peaceful coexistence.
Officials from the administration on Saturday said that “the situation in Doda has remained peaceful, and life is returning to normalcy.”
Though the internet services continue to remain suspended, the schools are yet to reopen in the district. The curfew was imposed after the arrest of sitting MLA Mehraj Malik, which triggered protests and heightened tensions this week.
Authorities said security arrangements remain in place to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government, led by Omar Abdullah, expressed its support for the detained MLA. Malik has been detained under the controversial PSA, “which could lead to detention for up to 2 years.”
The district administration reiterated that peace and cooperation from the public are crucial for the restoration of normal life in the region.
