Interpol has issued a blue corner notice for Amritpal Singh Mehron, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, widely known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi.
Confirming the development, Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal said, “Interpol has issued a blue corner notice for Amritpal. It will help us in the case. As of now, two accomplices of Amritpal have been arrested and are presently in judicial custody. A lookout circular has been issued for Amritpal and his accomplice, Ranjit Singh of Tarn Taran district.”
According to sources, a blue corner notice is issued to gather information about a person’s identity, location, or criminal activity across member countries of Interpol and other law-enforcement agencies. A Red Corner Notice is typically issued after a chargesheet has been filed, they clarified.
The police allege that Kanchan was killed as part of what Amritpal and his group considered an act of "moral policing." In a video that surfaced shortly after the killing, Amritpal can be seen claiming responsibility, saying he had warned Kanchan to stop posting “inappropriate” content online. However, his legal counsel has later claimed that the video may have been AI-generated and should be verified.
Kanchan’s decomposed body was found on the back seat of her car, which was parked near Adesh University in Bhucho Kalan, along the Bathinda–Chandigarh highway, late on the night of June 11. A lookout circular for Amritpal was issued on June 14.
The case has triggered internal tensions within some Nihang factions, with a few groups reportedly clashing publicly, issuing threats over disagreements about supporting Kanchan or condemning Amritpal's alleged actions.
Amritpal’s father, Baljinder Singh, a construction worker, said he had disowned his son five years ago. “When Amritpal’s name came up in connection with vandalism of some statues at the heritage street in Amritsar, I disowned him out of fear. Moreover, he was not interested in working with us. However, he continued to live with us,” he said.
