Investigate paper leak, Hooda tells BJP govt

Calling out the Haryana government for not investigating the HPSC paper copy and leak scam, the former CM said culprits must be brought to book

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda with HPSC candidates

Accusing the current BJP-majority government in Haryana of evading an investigation into the paper leak and paper copy scam, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said scams had become the face of recruitments for the government in the state.

Speaking with candidates who undertook the History exam for recruitment to the post of assistant professor under the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), Hooda said serious irregularities have come to fore in not only History, but also Hindi, Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics exams that were conducted by the HPSC.

Candidates undertaking these exams had submitted written complaints to the commission and demanded a cancellation of the exams.

Those who had come to meet Hooda, submitted a memorandum to the former CM.

“The biggest irregularity in these examinations was that in many places papers with broken seals were distributed to the candidates. There is a possibility of paper leak due to breaking of the seal of the paper. Under these circumstances, it was necessary that the government accepted the demand of the candidates and conducted a high-level investigation, but the government seemed to be running away from it. It is clear that the government itself is lies at the genesis of all the irregularities and scams,” he said.

The aggrieved candidates claimed that 24 questions in the History exam had been copied verbatim from a paper for the recruitment of Assistant Professor conducted by Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission. They said HPSC did not take the trouble of changing these questions even a bit, not even their language or context.

Apart from this, many questions had been taken verbatim from a question paper available on the website of various online institutions, they said. This paper is being claimed to be related to the Uttarakhand State Eligibility Test.

Consequently, the candidates also raised apprehensions about the collusion of HPSC and some coaching institutes. They have also lodged many complaints regarding there being given wrong answers to many questions, differences in Hindi and English options and printing errors.

Hooda reiterated that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that there is no irregularity at any level of the recruitment process.

Claiming the BJP has a “track record of deliberately doing such irregularities in every recruitment”, he said, “This is the reason why the High Court has put a big question mark on almost every recruitment of this government and has also imposed fines many times. The court has even said the results of all the recruitments done after 2019 will now have to be released again, because the government has made these recruitments under the wrong rules.”

Affirming the Congress’ support to the youth of the state, Hooda assured them the party would raise the issue of recruitment scams under the BJP at every level – from the media to the Assembly and Parliament.

“Congress will not shy away from showing the mirror to the BJP, which is constantly playing with the future of the youth in the arrogance of power,” he said.
