Punjab Police on Thursday said it had busted a terror module backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) with the arrest of one person. Officials said that police recovered four hand grenades from the possession of the apprehended individual.
In a joint operation by the State Special Operations Cells of Amritsar and Mohali and the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police, two foreign-made pistols along with ammunition were also recovered, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
According to officials, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was acting on instructions from cross-border handlers linked to the terror module involved in the recent grenade explosion in Chandigarh, DGP Yadav said in a social media post. He said an FIR has been registered against the arrested individual at the State Special Operations Cell police station in Amritsar.
Further investigation is underway to identify, track and apprehend other members of the module, he added.
Punjab Police has intensified operations against anti-state elements in 2026, arresting several persons with possible links to gangs, drug syndicates as well as terror modules.
