Israel’s attack on Iran ‘unjustified’: Omar

Israel, of its own will, waged war against the country, calling it a pre-emptive attack, said the J&K CM

News Arena Network - Jammu & Kashmir - UPDATED: June 13, 2025, 07:55 PM - 2 min read

J&K CM Omar Abdullah has denounced Israel's attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities

Denouncing Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Friday that Israel’s offensive was “totally unjustified” in the absence of the Islamic Republic giving any reason to the Jewish state to wage a war against it.

Abdullah, while interacting with reporters in Srinagar here today, said, “As far as I know, Iran did not give any reason to Israel to carry out attacks on it. Israel, of its own will, waged war against the country, calling it a pre-emptive attack.”
He slammed the world’s powers for remaining silent on Israel’s unwarranted actions, calling the turn of events “very unfortunate”.

Israel’s attack on Tehran has raised the potential for an all-out war between the bitter rivals in the region, leading to escalation of geopolitical tensions that could send the entire region into chaos.

Calling out the existing bias in holding certain countries accountable for waging wars and not others, Abdullah said while the world was quick to condemn Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, it is retrained when it comes to Israel’s attacks.
“Today, Israel did what Russia did with Ukraine. You raise your voice against Russia, and a movement starts against Russia. But, when Israel attacks Iran, the world powers – be it the US, Europe, or any other country – fall silent.

“If an attack by a country, such as Russia, on another is wrong, the attack by Israel on Iran is totally unjustified,” Abdullah said.

Israel’s free hand and free will to act against its neighbours can quickly develop into a massive regional conflict, said Abdullah.

“This is wrong, and the world has to step up to stop Israel from doing what it has been doing lately,” he added.

“It has an impact on our fuel prices, on our stock market, and on the flights that fly to the West. But, more than that, it has an impact on the sentiments of the people,” he said.

The chief minister also requested the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students in Iran.

The J&K CM took to his X handle to write: “Requesting @MEAIndia to urgently ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students currently stuck in Iran. Their families are deeply worried, and we stand with them in this difficult time. Every step must be taken to safeguard our students.”

Abdullah expressed sympathy with those killed in yesterday’s Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. “We hope the reasons behind the incident are known soon. We also hope such incidents do not happen in the future,” he said.

J&K leaders' unison in calling Israel a “rogue” state

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called Israel’s attack on Iran a “brazen act” by a state that appears to have gone “rogue”.
"Israel's attack on Iran is yet another brazen act by a state that appears to have gone rogue. The silence of the global community, particularly the Western powers led by the United States is both alarming and telling. This silence amounts to tacit approval," Mufti said in a post on X.

Mufti pointed out that in the case of India-Pakistan tensions, the US never fails to assert that its intervention has been crucial in preventing an escalation, “yet when it comes to Israel's relentless bombardment of Gaza or its latest strike on Iran, that same urgency is conspicuously missing".

"These glaring double standards endanger global peace and stability," she said.

The former J-K chief minister termed the "deafening silence" of the "so called" Muslim countries, "who remain shamelessly non-existent in the face of such grave injustice" equally "disturbing".

"Their inaction is not just disappointing, it's a betrayal of the very causes they claim to stand for," Mufti said.

National Conference (NC) Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi also criticised Israel, saying the country was behaving like a “colonial thug” by attacking sovereign nations at will.

“Israel has now bombed Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Iran, and still plays the victim. This rogue Zionist regime isn't defending itself, it's behaving like a colonial thug,” Mehdi said in a post on X.

The influential Shia leader said attacking sovereign nations at will "does not make you powerful, it makes you a terrorist state".
He added that Iran, like any sovereign nation, now has every right to defend itself and "take full, punishing revenge".

"The Zionist regime should pay for its crimes in Gaza, for its bloodlust, for its massacres," Mehdi said in the post.

In another post on X, Mehdi said India's abstention in the UN General Assembly from a vote on a draft resolution that demanded "immediate, unconditional and permanent" ceasefire in Gaza reflects "shrinking of moral imagination".

"India once stood tall among the post-colonial nations, defending the rights of the oppressed, including the Palestinian people. (Jawaharlal) Nehru was unequivocal in his support for justice in Palestine. Indira Gandhi upheld that legacy. What changed," the Lok Sabha MP said.

Is this the “strategic autonomy” we boast of? He asked rhetorically, adding that it reflects the “abandonment of global solidarity” and the “betrayal of our own history”.

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned Israel’s attack on Iran, saying the Jewish state has become a “rogue state and a huge threat to world peace”.

“Another distressing news that came this morning is the bombing of Iran by Israel in which many civilians, including women and children, have been killed. Besides, senior Iranian military personnel have also been assassinated. This is highly condemnable,” he said, addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Kashmir.

The Hurriyat Conference chairman said that while “perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it”, Israel is now putting the whole of Middle East in “peril”.

The separatist leader said it is the moral duty of the UN and the world’s nations to put pressure on Israel to stop the “genocide and war in Gaza and prevent Israel from targeting other nations”.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir stand with Palestinians and Iranians against Israeli aggression on them,” he added.

On not allowing Eid prayers at Eidgah and Jamia Masjid, and his house arrest on Eid day, Mirwaiz said he wanted to ask the LG why the Muslims of Kashmir were being prevented from offering Eid prayers at Eidgah or even at the Jama Masjid.

“The reality is that oppressive measures are very much in place and the so-called narrative of normalcy post abrogation of 370 is a myth. There is no political or administrative space available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, it is shrinking by the day,” he added.
