The Income Tax Department has launched an early morning search operation at the premises of Sunil Srivastava, senior private secretary of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and seven others.
The raids were started at Sunil Srivastava's house located in a posh area of Ashok Nagar in Ranchi. The Income Tax teams are raiding several places in Jamshedpur besides Sunil Srivastava’s house.
Sunil Srivastava is very close to the Soren family, as he was also a private secretary of JMM chief Shibu Soren when the senior Soren was Chief Minister of the State, according to sources.
Notably, CM’s MLA representative Pankaj Mishra is already facing corruption charges and has recently come out of bail in the Rs 1200 crore illegal mining scam. The case is being investigated by the CBI.
Reacting to the raid, State Congress president Rajesh Thakur said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has started feeling that they are losing the elections. Last
time they won 25 seats, this time they will win 15 seats, he added.
He said that the BJP is using Central agencies in the desperation of a clear defeat in the polls. “We will fight strongly and defeat the BJP badly in the elections,” he said.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdev said that all the agencies are on high alert due to elections. “Money should not be misused in elections under any circumstances and wherever the agencies find evidence, they take action,” he added.
