In the wake of escalating tension between India and Pakistan, security has been significantly tightened in the Chamba border region of Himachal Pradesh. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been deployed along the 220-km stretch bordering Jammu & Kashmir, with round-the-clock patrols and surveillance underway.
Police stations in the border areas have been ITBP personnel, along with state police battalions and Special Police Officers (SPOs), are maintaining a high state of alert. All police stations in the region have received reinforcements, and continuous patrolling is being conducted to monitor movement and activities near the sensitive border zones. If required, military forces may also be deployed in these sensitive areas.
“We are maintaining strict vigilance across all border points. Every vehicle, including interstate buses, entering the district is being thoroughly inspected. Additional reinforcements will be deployed if the situation demands,” said Abhishek Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Chamba.
Key border entry points such as Langera, Khundi Maral, and Chuhan Sindhara are under intensified watch. Security has also been strengthened along adjoining borders with Punjab.
As a precautionary measure, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has temporarily suspended all bus services from Chamba to Pathankot and Amritsar. However, other inter-district and interstate routes remain operational, with affected buses being rerouted via alternate paths.
“HRTC buses to Pathankot and Amritsar have been suspended temporarily. All other interstate and inter-district routes are operating as scheduled, though buses that used to go via Pathankot are now being rerouted,” confirmed Shugal Singh, Regional Manager, HRTC Chamba.
