J&K admin braces for record Amarnath Yatra pilgrims

J&K has entered the final phase of Amarnath Yatra 2026 preparations, with over 650 security companies deployed for a safe pilgrimage.


Amarnath Yatra preparations in Jammu and Kashmir have entered the final leg with the administration gearing up to welcome record numbers this year. In the ongoing preparations, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has held detailed meetings with stakeholders, traders, and civil societies.

He has also held several meetings with security forces, intelligence agencies, and officials of the civil administration over the past few weeks to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Yatra in 2026.

Besides, security forces have held meetings with each other to strengthen the security grid in the Union Territory ahead of the commencement of the pilgrimage to the Himalayan mountains in South Kashmir. NSG and other special forces conducted joint exercises at the Jammu base camp to respond to any evolving emergencies during the Yatra.

Additionally, several meetings of railways and people associated with the tourism industry were also held in Jammu and Srinagar.

The Jammu rail division is expected to announce special trains for pilgrims willing to travel to Kashmir directly for the pilgrimage in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that his administration would make necessary arrangements for the smooth and safe Amarnath pilgrimage.

Medical teams and officers from the civil administration would be deployed to monitor and track pilgrimage-related issues.

Members of the tourism industry and local traders stand ready to welcome Amarnath pilgrims and tourists during the peak tourism season.

From the security point of view, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deployed over 650 companies of security forces to Jammu and Kashmir to ensure an incident-free Yatra.
