J&K admn united over a drug-free Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor, LG Manoj Sinha, have said the administration stands united on the cause of a drug-free Kashmir, which has become the biggest cause of concern, ruining the youth of Kashmir.

 

On International Day against Drug Abuse, Omar said, “We stand united for a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir. Our youth deserve opportunity, not addiction.”
The post from the X handle of the CM’s office read: “Today, on International Day against Drug Abuse, we stand united for a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.”

 

It further reads, “Our youth deserve opportunity, not addiction. My government is committed to stronger rehabilitation, awareness, and enforcement. Let us protect our future together.”

 

On International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said, “Drug abuse damages lives & weakens our social fabric.”

 

Expressing support, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office tweeted, “Drug abuse damages lives & weakens our social fabric. On International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, let’s reaffirm our resolve to combat the scourge of drugs.”

 

His post urges people, civil and religious, and law enforcement agencies to join hands to build a society free from drugs and substance abuse. “I urge all to join hands to build a drug-free society, raise awareness & strengthen efforts to eradicate this evil,” it said.


As per official data shared by the central government in the parliament, those involved in drugs and substance abuse have reached 10 Lakh, which is nearly 8 per cent of the population of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Though some recent reports also suggest that the number has witnessed a substantial increase in the past 2 years and that official figures now stand between 13-14 lakh, which is nearly a 2 per cent increase.
