A high-voltage 7-day short Assembly session is set to commence tomorrow in Srinagar, and political circles are abuzz with expectations of heated debates, tough questions, and critical political developments. The autumn session  is expected to witness intense debate, with opposition parties preparing to hold the NC-led government accountable on multiple fronts, including governance, unfulfilled election promises, statehood, and reservation issues.

As per the official calendar issued, Thursday will mark the first day of the session, which comes at a politically crucial time — coinciding with the completion of one year of the Omar Abdullah-led government in Jammu and Kashmir. The upcoming session is expected to be one of the most explosive in recent years, with the Opposition parties fully prepared to corner the ruling dispensation on a series of governance, development, and security-related issues. Political observers say the session is likely to set the tone for the coming months as the government and opposition brace for an intense face-off.

According to Assembly sources, several key resolutions are expected to be taken up during the session, some of which could trigger sharp political exchanges on the floor of the House. “Opposition parties have finalized their strategy to question the government’s performance in its first year. Issues related to unemployment, security situation, and development projects are likely to dominate the proceedings,” a senior leader said.

Security arrangements have also been heightened around the Assembly complex to ensure smooth conduct of the session.
With political stakes high and tempers expected to flare, the next seven days of the Assembly session are likely to witness fiery speeches, powerful rebuttals, and a battle of narratives — making it a defining moment in Jammu and Kashmir’s post-2019 political landscape.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said the BJP will question the government on failing to deliver on key commitments, including 200 free electricity units, 12 LPG cylinders per household, and job creation for youth. “The government promised one lakh jobs in the last year but has achieved nothing. We will demand accountability,” Sharma stated.Smaller regional parties such as PDP, PC, and AIP are expected to raise issues related to statehood, reservation rationalisation, and other regional concerns.

A resolution seeking restoration of statehood, submitted by Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, has been disallowed as the matter is sub judice. The government plans to introduce three bills: amendments to the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the GST Act, 2017, and the Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Business Establishment Bill, 2025. For the session, the Assembly Secretariat has received 450 questions, 13 private members’ bills, and 55 private members’ resolutions, while 33 bills from the previous session will be given priority on October 28.
