J&K: CPI stages protest for statehood restoration

CPI State Secretary GM Mizrab said a dual power structure is not acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Communist Party of India (Jammu and Kashmir) on Friday organised a protest demonstration at the press club Jammu, demanding restoration of statehood to J&K.

 

Several members and workers of the CPI gathered outside Press Club Jammu and raised slogans in favour of the restoration of statehood.

 

Criticising what is now being called a dual power structure in Jammu and Kashmir where law and order implementation and matters related to security issues are handled by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while the civic affairs are handled by the elected government led by Omar Abdullah.

 

CPI State Secretary GM Mizrab said that a dual power structure is not acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given their mandate by coming out in large numbers to vote for a democratic government.

“But it is rather unfortunate that the central dispensation is not allowing the elected government to function smoothly,” said Mizrab.

 

He added the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered terribly since 2019 due to protracted bureaucratic rule.

 

Rakesh Sharma, National Council member of CPI, urged the central government to restore the statehood on a priority basis.

 

District Secretary Kurheed Ahmad Bhat, while addressing the demonstration, said that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir is the most important issue right now.

 

Prominent among others who participated in the protest were youth leader Ishfaq Ahamd Sheikh, Gulzar Ahmad, Assistant Secretary CPI, and Council members G.M. Bhat and Bashir Ahmad.
