Destination for the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 to be held in Jammu and Kashmir from Feb 22-25.

Jammu and Kashmir's government has declared Gulmarg a tobacco-free zone ahead of the much-anticipated Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025.

The first phase of KIWG 2025 was successfully held in Leh from January 23 to 27, while the second phase is scheduled to commence on February 24 in Gulmarg.

This initiative aligns with the 'Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,' aimed at curbing tobacco use and promoting a clean, healthy environment for tourists, athletes, and locals.

Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, smoking in public places is already prohibited. The administration has reinforced this regulation by banning smoking and spitting of tobacco in Gulmarg and Tangmarg.

Violations will be punishable under Section 270 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses public nuisance and health hazards.

To ensure strict enforcement, the administration has directed key officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla; the Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA); the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Gulmarg; and the Chief Medical Officer, to implement the ban effectively.

The decision has received widespread appreciation from both political leaders and the public. Several voices have also urged authorities to introduce an anti-liquor bill during the upcoming J&K Assembly session to curb alcohol consumption.

With Gulmarg preparing to host athletes from across the nation, this initiative aims to ensure a healthier and more enjoyable experience for all participants and visitors during the Khelo India Winter Games.
