Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday reaffirmed the state’s commitment to intensifying its crackdown on criminals involved in narco-terrorism.

Addressing reporters during a public darbar in South Kashmir, DGP Prabhat emphasized that stringent action would be taken against individuals engaged in drug-related criminal activities that fuel terrorism in the region.

Law Enforcement to Strengthen Measures

DGP Prabhat made it clear that law enforcement agencies would adopt an uncompromising stance against narco-criminals, stating, “Criminals involved in narco-terrorism will be dealt with sternly.” His remarks highlight the government’s determination to curb the growing nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

When asked about the potential rise in infiltration attempts as the snow begins to melt along popular trek routes, DGP Prabhat refrained from speculation. “Let’s not make predictions like the meteorological department,” he responded, indicating that security forces would remain vigilant without engaging in conjecture.

Public Engagements to Continue

The police chief also announced that more public outreach programs, such as the darbar held in South Kashmir, would be organized in the coming days to directly address public concerns and enhance cooperation between the police and local communities.

Reinforcing the administration’s resolve, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken decisive action against drug traffickers. On Thursday, the Anantnag Police, acting under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, attached properties worth Rs 75 lakh belonging to two notorious drug peddlers.

According to an official release, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, a cement-concreted plinth and one kanal of land belonging to Tariq Ahmad Lone, son of Mohd Maqbool Lone from Satkipora, were attached.

The seized property, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh, was confirmed to have been acquired through illegal drug trafficking. Lone is implicated in an ongoing investigation under FIR No. 48/2019, registered at Police Station Srigufwara under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

In a separate action, the Bijbehara Police attached commercial shops owned by Gulzar Ahmad Rather, son of Gh. Rasool Rather from Waghama. This attachment was made in connection with FIR No. 227/2024 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Bijbehara.

The value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 15 lakh, and investigations confirm that it was acquired through drug-related activities.

Unwavering Commitment to Eradicating Narco-Terrorism

The recent measures taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Police underscore their unwavering commitment to eradicating narco-terrorism from the region. By targeting both the individuals involved and their illegally acquired assets, law enforcement aims to dismantle the financial backbone of drug cartels operating in the state.

The police urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking. As the administration intensifies its crackdown, further action against narco-criminals is expected in the coming weeks.
