The final electoral rolls for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are expected to be published on August 20, coinciding with the first official notification for the elections.

The number of voters is projected to approach nine million.

As per the last revision, Jammu and Kashmir had 8.7 million voters. Officials anticipate the final count will be between 8.8 and 8.9 million. "With the publication of these rolls, the Special Summary Revision exercise will conclude," an official stated.

The current electorate includes 4.446 million males, 4.262 million females, 169 transgender individuals, 82,590 people with disabilities, 73,943 very senior citizens, 2,660 centenarians, 76,092 service electors, and 371,000 first-time voters. Over two million voters are aged between 20 and 29.

There are 11,838 polling stations in the Union Territory, averaging 735 voters per station. The first notification will cover 24 constituencies, with nominations open until August 27. Document scrutiny is scheduled for August 28, and candidates can withdraw their nominations by August 30.

Voting will take place in three phases: the first on September 18, the second on September 25, and the third on October 1. Major political parties, including the BJP, National Conference, Congress, PDP, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, People’s Conference, and Bahujan Samaj Party, are expected to announce their candidates soon. Election authorities anticipate between 700 and 900 candidates, including many independents.

"Arrangements are being made to accommodate a high voter turnout and an increased number of candidates," officials noted, adding that the voter turnout is expected to rise further compared to the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. "Assembly polls generally see higher turnout than parliamentary elections," they added.
