Amid fresh snowfall and forecasts for more, authorities in J&K on Friday extended winter vacations for schools in the Kashmir Valley and winter zones of Jammu till March 7.
Officials said that the decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by the minister for school education, Sakina Itoo, this morning.
They said the decision followed reports from respective Deputy Commissioners regarding the snowfall as well as predictions for inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir by the MeT Department.
The schools were originally scheduled to reopen on March 1 after a long winter break but now will resume on March 7.

Earlier, rains caused havoc in Jammu and Kashmir as continuous downpours claimed the lives of three people while three others sustained injuries.
Several structures, including a temple dome, were damaged due to lightning on Thursday in the Jammu division.
Additionally, upper reaches in Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rains as the ongoing wet spell is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.
Moreover, the fresh snowfall has also triggered snow avalanches in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, where several houses suffered damages, forcing the residents to flee to nearby safe places.
Meanwhile, the MET office in Srinagar has predicted “more rains and snow for the next week till March 4.”
In the wake of these incidents, authorities have decided to extend the winter school break by another week before the chaotic weather settles on March 4.
