Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, said that the National Conference government is working to develop offbeat destinations to position the Union Territory among the country’s top tourist spots. Itoo was speaking at a party meeting in Kulgam.
The minister said the government is focusing on developing the Panchanpatri area in Kulgam as a major tourist destination in the Valley.
She directed the Tourism Department to assess the scope for strengthening tourism infrastructure in the area.
“Panchanpatri possesses immense natural beauty and holds tremendous potential to emerge as a major attraction for nature lovers, trekkers, and adventure tourists,” she stated.
Earlier on Friday, during an event in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said that his government is keen on developing Jammu and Kashmir’s offbeat destinations to boost tourism.
“The more destinations the government builds, the more tourists are going to come in, leading to greater economic prosperity,” he said, and urged the people from Tamil Nadu and South India to visit Kashmir and enjoy its picturesque destinations.
He also offered to provide reasonable packages to the film industry from the South in case they decide to shoot their films in Jammu and Kashmir.
