Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has asked the administration to step up action against the narco-terror network operating in the Union Territory. He has called for stronger and faster enforcement measures.
He chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar. During the meeting, he was briefed on the progress of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, an official spokesperson said.
LG Manoj Sinha directed the Director General of Police to strengthen the Anti-Narcotics Task Force. He also asked for the deployment of additional manpower to improve operations against drug networks.
He reviewed steps being taken for the rehabilitation of drug abuse victims. He also asked for more de-addiction and rehabilitation centres run by police and health departments across the UT, along with proper counselling and regular monitoring.
Sinha also ordered closer monitoring of sensitive places such as abandoned buildings and river bunds. He said these areas are often misused for illegal narcotics activities and need strict surveillance.
The LG also called for public disclosure of major drug traffickers to discourage such crimes and raise awareness among people.
He directed the School Education and Higher Education Departments to organise sports events and youth engagement programmes. The aim is to keep young people away from drug abuse and channel their energy in positive activities.
