Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced a reduction in the size of his official convoy by half to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity and fuel conservation, officials said.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi urged people to restrict unnecessary movement, avoid buying gold for the next year, and shift towards more natural agricultural practices while reducing the use of imported DAP fertiliser. The austerity measure was announced amid continuing tensions between Iran and the United States, despite a fragile ceasefire remaining in place.
Officials at Raj Bhavan said the decision aligns with the Prime Minister’s emphasis on economical use of resources, reduced expenditure, and promotion of sustainable governance practices.
According to officials, the Lieutenant Governor’s convoy during official visits across the Union Territory will now comprise fewer vehicles while maintaining all mandatory security protocols.
They said the move is aimed at promoting fuel conservation, reducing vehicular congestion, and enhancing administrative efficiency without compromising security arrangements.
The LG administration has also urged government departments and public institutions in Jammu and Kashmir to adopt similar measures focused on efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
