J&K police arrest militant absconding for 18 years

The accused, after surrendering, hid himself in Kashmir at some unknown locations and was absconding from his arrest for 18 years.

Jammu and Kashmir police arrest militant Anwar Ali Chouhan.


Jammu and Kashmir police have apprehended a militant absconding for eighteen years, officials said.

 

In a handout, the police said that one absconder, namely Anwar Ali Chouhan (40), S/O Haji Nizam Din Chouhan alias Jamsheer, R/O Gujjar Kothian, Talwara, Reasi, who had joined militancy in the year 2001 (HM) and remained active for seven years, later on, surrendered in the year 2007.

 

The accused, after surrendering, hid himself in Kashmir at some unknown locations and was absconding from his arrest for 18 years.

 

After relentless time-to-time searches by the police, he was finally caught on Thursday from a forest area near Gujjar Kothian, Talwara, they said.

 

He was involved in multiple criminal and militancy cases. The police spokesman confirmed that on 5 January 2006, a case (FIR No. 04/2006 U/S 307, 120B, 121 (A) RPC, 7/27 Arms Act) was registered at P/S Reasi in which, during a search operation in the forest area of Jadd, Talwara.

 

Some unknown militants started firing on the police party, after which the militants managed to escape, taking advantage of the dense forest.

 

One grenade was recovered and during the involvement of said Anwar Ali S/O Haji Nizamuddin R/O Gujjar Kothian Caste Bakerwal was revealed, against whom the chargesheet was produced U/S 512 Cr.PC in the Court of Law.

 

Subsequently, On 07 April 2006, Case FIR No. 57/2006 U/S 302/307/120B/121 (A)/ 212/216 RPC 7/27 Arms Act 3 JKPS Act was registered at P/S Reasi, in which one hand grenade was thrown in a bus bearing registration number JK02P-3881 at Baradari Reasi, in which 05 persons got injured and later on, the father of the then DySP HQ Reasi succumbed to his injuries and died due to that grenade blast, he said.

 

Furthermore, during the investigation, a charge sheet was presented before the Hon’ble Court U/S 512 Cr.PC against two persons, namely Mumtaz Ali Chouhan and Anwar Ali Chouhan, both sons of Haji Nizam Din Chouhan R/O Gujjar Kothian in Talwara Reasi, Mumtaz was arrested in the year 2007 and Anwar Ali was absconding.

 

He had been absconding for the past 18 years and had been arrested by PS Reasi, reads the statement.
