The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Sunday that it has ramped up efforts to curb the misuse of SIM cards by militants and criminal elements.

In a statement issued, the police revealed that extensive inspections had been conducted across multiple districts. The raids targeted central Kashmir’s Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Budgam; south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian; and north Kashmir’s Bandipora.

Additionally, searches were carried out in parts of the Jammu division, including Samba and Kishtwar, to ensure strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms by SIM card vendors.

The intensified measures aim to prevent unauthorised issuance and misuse of SIM cards while safeguarding the integrity of communication networks.

The police spokesperson added that over the past year, more than 30 individuals had been arrested for obtaining SIM cards in their names and passing them on to militants for unlawful activities.
