Jammu and Kashmir’s higher reaches on Monday were covered with a fresh blanket of snow, as several hill stations and mountain passes receiving the season's first snowfall.
Several parts of Srinagar city experienced heavy rainfall, leading to a dip in temperatures.
Officials from the Meteorological Department in Srinagar said light to moderate snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg, Gurez, Zojila, Sinthan Top, and Razdan Pass, while the plains witnessed intermittent rainfall.
The fresh spell caused a notable drop in both day and night temperatures across the region.
In Gulmarg, the famous ski resort’s slopes at Apharwat turned white overnight, attracting visitors and locals who visited the hill station to witness the season’s first snowfall.
Razdan Top, a key route connecting Bandipora with Gurez Valley, also experienced light snowfall, though traffic movement continued without disruption.
The Meteorological Department (MET) has issued an advisory stating that western disturbances are likely to affect the Union Territory (UT) in the next few days. An intense spell of rain and snowfall is expected from October 5 to 7. However, the weather conditions are likely to improve from October 8 onwards.
