, MLA-elect from the Pulwama assembly constituency and a youth leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), stated on Monday that the revocation of President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) marks the beginning of a process to reclaim what the people have lost over the past six to seven years.
He emphasised that the residents voted for the restoration of their dignity and identity.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have pinned a lot of hope on the National Conference, believing that the party will fulfil its stated promises,” Parra remarked.
He further asserted, “The people of Kashmir have voted for dignity. They have voted for the restoration of Article 370 and statehood. They have voted to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was robbed on August 5, 2019. This vote is not only to remove Presidential Rule but to restore their dignity and protect their identity. I hope this is the start of the process to reclaim what we have lost in the last six to seven years.”
Parra added, “People have a lot of expectations from this government. We hope that the incoming government will fulfil all the promises made in their manifesto on which they campaigned.”
The presidential rule in J&K was revoked on Sunday, paving the way for the new government following the recent assembly elections, the first held in a decade. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the gazette notification on the same day.
The decision was made two days after National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to stake a claim for government formation.
Following their meeting, Abdullah indicated that the swearing-in ceremony could occur on either Tuesday, October 15, or Wednesday, October 16, as the LG mentioned that completing the necessary paperwork would take two to three days.
Meanwhile, NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah stated on Saturday that the primary objective of the new government will be to restore statehood to J&K.
The Congress, independents, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have paved the way for the National Conference to claim the formation of the government in the region.
Omar Abdullah is poised to make history by becoming the first Chief Minister of the J&K union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
