Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review in Jammu on Sunday, marking his first on-ground assessment of the region’s situation since a string of such meetings in Delhi over the past few months.

Shah is slated to meet with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials from the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces, J&K Police, and intelligence agencies. The meeting comes amid heightened concerns over infiltration attempts from across the border in Jammu.

The security assessment gains significance against the backdrop of a two-week-long anti-militancy operation underway across Kathua and Udhampur. The combing operation, now entering its 15th day, follows a deadly gunfight that claimed the lives of four policemen and two militants.

Shah is also expected to meet the families of the slain personnel during his visit, offering condolences and acknowledging their sacrifices.

On Monday, the Home Minister will travel to Srinagar for an overnight stay. He is scheduled to undertake a review of ongoing development projects in the Union Territory and inaugurate new infrastructure works.

Security across Jammu and Kashmir has been intensified in anticipation of Shah’s visit. A multi-layered strategy has been put in place, with Kashmir Inspector General of Police VK Birdi chairing a joint coordination meeting of security agencies on Saturday.

“The focus was laid on securing critical infrastructure and vulnerable areas with specific measures to protect vital assets and ensure safety,” a senior police officer said.

The deployment of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) to counter insurgency threats and respond to emergencies was also discussed during the meeting. “Deployment of Counter-insurgency Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) was discussed to ensure rapid responses to emerging threats,” the officer added.

IGP Birdi also directed intensified patrolling in both urban and rural regions, with enhanced presence at key entry and exit points. The emphasis, officials said, is on neutralising potential threats and maintaining a state of high alert across the Union Territory.
