Upper reaches of J&K receive fresh snowfall

The weather pattern continued across the valley, as the Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in the plains over the next 24 hours.

Jammu and Kashmir’s higher reaches received fresh snowfall on Monday night, while night temperatures in the Valley improved due to overcast conditions, officials said on Tuesday.

 

Hundreds of tourists at the Gulmarg resort woke up surprised to find the area blanketed in fresh snow in the early hours.

 

The weather pattern continued across the valley, as the Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in the plains over the next 24 hours.

 

According to the MeT office in Srinagar, “The summer capital recorded a minimum temperature of 3.3 degrees Celsius on Monday night, which is well above 3 degrees than the normal seasonal average.”

 

Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla emerged as the coldest place in Kashmir with a minimum temperature of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius.

 

Meanwhile, the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, the officials added.

 

Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded 2.6 degrees, while Kokernag recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius. Kupwara’s minimum temperature settled at zero degrees Celsius.

 

The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy weather with significant chances of moderate to heavy rain in the plains and snowfall in the upper reaches until February 11.

 

Cloud cover is likely to increase on February 14, with a chance of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches. From February 15 to 16, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy without any notable chances of rain or snowfall.
