Temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir have dropped significantly due to persistent rains and snowfall in higher reaches.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecasted continued rain across most of the Union Territory (UT) and the possibility of snowfall in the higher reaches through September.
Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, and other areas experienced fresh rainfall, while the elevated slopes and popular trekking routes in Sonamarg saw the season's first snowfall.
Waterlogging was reported in several areas of Srinagar, causing inconvenience for pedestrians and disrupting vehicular movement.
According to the latest reports, Gulmarg, a renowned tourist destination, recorded the highest precipitation, with 21.8 mm of rainfall until 5:30 PM. Kupwara followed with 12.4 mm, while Pahalgam received 10.1 mm. Srinagar city had 5.0 mm of rainfall during the same period.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MeT, stated, “A spell of rain and thundershowers is expected at isolated places across the State tomorrow.”
The weather is likely to remain generally dry with isolated brief showers from August 31 to September 1. From September 2 to 3, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at various locations.
From September 4 to 7, mostly dry conditions are anticipated.
The MeT has issued an advisory warning of the possibility of flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.
