The state government has sought a one-time financial assistance of ₹10,000 for girls from the Central government, similar to schemes implemented in Bihar and other states.
State Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said that a formal proposal has already been prepared and placed before the Centre.
Speaking at a public gathering during the Republic Day celebrations in Palamu, Kishore revealed that the proposal was discussed in a recent meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, where the state sought central support for the initiative.
“I have submitted a proposal to the Union Government to provide ₹10,000 to every girl in Jharkhand on the pattern followed by Bihar. I am confident that the Centre, which advocates ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’, will positively consider extending the same benefit to the daughters of Jharkhand,” the finance minister said.
Emphasising equality, Kishore stated that daughters across the country deserve equal treatment and assistance, and the Centre should ensure uniform support for girls in all states.
He further highlighted that the Jharkhand government is already providing monthly financial aid of ₹2,500 to women aged between 18 and 50 years under the Chief Minister’s Maiyan Samman Yojana, funded entirely by the state.
“While the scheme is beneficial, it is not sufficient on its own. Additional support of ₹10,000 from the Centre would help girls in Jharkhand become more self-reliant,” he added.
Maiyan Samman Yojana, a flagship initiative of the Hemant Soren-led government, currently benefits over 56 lakh women across the state. In the Budget for the financial year 2025-26, tabled in the Jharkhand Assembly on March 3, a provision of ₹13,363 crore has been earmarked for the scheme out of the total budget outlay of ₹1.45 lakh crore.
During his address, the finance minister also spoke about veteran tribal leader Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. While welcoming his Padma Bhushan honour, Kishore said that Soren deserves the nation’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, and noted that the Jharkhand Assembly has already forwarded a proposal to the central government in this regard.
