Within hours of being sworn in, Chief Minister Hemant Soren convened Jharkhand’s first Cabinet meeting on Thursday, deciding to take legal action to recover ₹1.36 lakh crore allegedly owed by the Centre and Central PSUs.
The Cabinet also resolved to hold the inaugural session of the Sixth Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from December 9 to 12, with Prof. Stephen Marandi appointed Protem Speaker to oversee the oath-taking ceremony for new members.
In a move aimed at social welfare, the government approved a monthly payment of ₹2,500 under the Mainiya Samman Yojana, effective December 2024.
To enhance revenue generation, a special Finance Department cell will identify new income sources, revise mining taxes, and expedite pending legal recoveries.
The Cabinet decided to improve recruitment processes for police and other positions, directing JPSC, JSSC, and related bodies to publish an examination calendar by January 1, 2025.
Additionally, an all-party delegation and officials will visit Assam to assess the conditions of Jharkhand-origin tribal communities in tea gardens, with recommendations for their welfare to follow a ground-level study.
Post-meeting, Soren presented a ₹10-lakh ex-gratia cheque to Hulasi Devi, mother of martyr Agniveer Arjun Mahato, from Bokaro's Chandankyari block.
An appointment letter was also handed to the martyr’s brother, Balram Mahato. The Chief Minister instructed officials to extend all eligible welfare benefits to the martyr’s family.
