The final few seconds inside a capsized cruise ship in Madhya Pradesh have been recorded through an extremely emotional video where a mother holds her four-year-old boy right before the boat capsizes. The unfortunate incident, which occurred on the Bargi dam reservoir in Jabalpur on Thursday night, had resulted in a total of nine fatalities, but none more emotionally impactful than that of the mother and her young son.
In the footage recorded from within the cabin, the woman is seen wearing a life jacket, holding her small son close as the atmosphere shifts from calm to chaos. As water begins to pour into the vessel and passengers scramble to distribute safety gear, she remains focused entirely on the boy. When rescuers finally recovered their bodies hours later, the pair were found still locked in that same embrace, wrapped together inside the single life jacket. The sight was so distressing that even the state’s Cabinet Minister, Rakesh Singh, was moved to tears while visiting the site.
The disaster reportedly struck around 6 pm when a sudden, violent storm lashed the reservoir. The cruise, which was carrying approximately 30 passengers, was caught in the gale, causing it to become unstable in the increasingly rough waters. According to those who survived, there were frantic pleas from the passengers for the crew to turn back towards the shore as the weather turned, yet the boat continued to drift further into the open water before eventually tipping over.
The teams that have been deployed by the SDRF and the local police force have spared no effort during the night to rescue 22 individuals. Nonetheless, efforts are still being made to trace the missing individuals. The chief minister of the state, Mohan Yadav, has vowed the total cooperation of the state government with the families of the deceased.
