Jagan blames convoy death on lack of Z-plus cover

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister said that despite having informed officials in advance, standard security protocols were ignored

Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

A day after the Andhra Pradesh Police booked YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his driver for accidentally running over party supporter Cheeli Singaiah, the former chief minister accused the government of changing the narrative. Singaiah was run over by a car of Jagan’s convoy during his recent tour of Rentapalla.

Jagan questioned the denial of Z-plus security, saying it was not a privilege but a protocol-based entitlement for former CMs. He said had he been provided Z-plus security cover, the incident would not have taken place. In a post on X on Monday, Jagan said, “Despite having informed officials in advance, standard security protocols were ignored—neither pilot vehicles nor rope parties.” The entire responsibility for the safety of the convoy lies with the state government, he added.

Jagan said he had to arrange a bulletproof vehicle at his own expense, although it was a mandatory provision under Z-plus cover.  “Had security been provided, someone would not have come under the vehicle. Either the government has failed in this regard or the narrative is fabricated,” he said.
