A Jaguar fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed near Suvarda village in Gujarat's Jamnagar district, triggering a massive search operation for one of the two pilots on board.
The twin-seater aircraft was on a routine training sortie when the incident occurred. While one pilot managed to eject safely, the other remains unaccounted for, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the scene.
According to Superintendent of Police Premsukh Delu, the aircraft caught fire upon impact. Firefighters and police personnel were immediately deployed to the crash site, which is approximately 12 km from Jamnagar city. Videos from the scene showed debris scattered across a field, with the jet’s cockpit and tail section engulfed in flames. The extent of the damage and possible causes of the crash are yet to be determined.
The Indian Air Force has been operating Jaguar fighter jets since the late 1970s. The aircraft, known for its twin-engine configuration and adaptability for both single-seat and twin-seat variants, has undergone several upgrades over the decades.
Despite its age, it remains a critical asset in the IAF's fleet. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the crash while search efforts continue for the missing pilot.
