Jailed former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is accused of money laundering through a land scam, has approached the Supreme Court against the delay in Jharkhand High Court issuing its order on his petition.
Soren is said to have filed a criminal SLP (Special Leave Petition) in the Apex Court appealing to the court that the Jharkhand High Court, while hearing the petition filed on his behalf, had reserved its decision on February 28.
Even after almost 55 days have passed, the High Court has not yet given its decision.
Citing the unprecedented delay in the High Court order Soren has also sought interim bail from the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court advocate on record Pragya Singh Baghel will represent former Chief Minister. However the case has not been listed for hearing in the Supreme Court.
The jailed former CM has also approached the trial court for his bail, a hearing on which is scheduled to be held on May 1.
The trial court has asked the Enforcement Directorate to submit its reply before that.
Hemant Soren and Bhanu Pratap, a revenue employee of Bargain area, are currently in judicial custody in Birsa Munda Central Jail.
Soren was arrested on the night of 31 January in a money laundering case after he resigned from the post of Chief Minister.
In the same case, ED has also arrested Afsar Ali, Antu Tirkey, Priya Ranjan Sahay, Vipin Singh and Irshad Akhtar.
