BJP leader and former Himachal CM Jairam Thakur has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing a relief package of Rs 1,500 crore for the state during his visit to the state on Tuesday.

Thakur said the financial aid would go a long way in supporting disaster-hit families and rebuilding the state.

"I thank PM Modi for announcing Rs 1500 crore to the people of Himachal Pradesh. This will help the affected families and aid in rebuilding the state. The PM spoke to the disaster-hit families and assured their help," Thakur said.

Prime Minister Modi, after conducting an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas on Tuesday, announced Rs 1,500 crore in financial assistance for Himachal Pradesh. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the state will also receive an advance release of the second instalment of SDRF funds, along with PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, to deal with the crisis.

He further announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured in the floods and natural calamity.

After his survey, PM Modi held a meeting in Kangra to review relief and rehabilitation efforts and to assess the scale of damage.

The support package will be used in many ways. Homes will be rebuilt under the PM Awas Yojana, highways and schools will be restored, farmers will receive aid under various schemes, and livestock owners will get Mini Kits. Relief will also be provided through the PMNRF.

Inter-Ministerial Central teams have already visited Himachal to assess the destruction. Based on their reports, the Union Government will consider additional aid.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also met families affected by the disaster. He expressed his condolences to those who lost loved ones and said the Union Government would work closely with the state government during this difficult time to extend every possible support.
