Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state of “openly misusing the police” to influence the upcoming Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, alleging that the AAP was preparing to “steal the entire election” in the state.

Jakhar said the AAP was trying to sabotage the democratic process in Punjab. He said this was the reason the BJP approached the Election Commission on Tuesday to demand full videography of the polls.

Referring to a leaked audio clip of a tele-meeting of senior police officials discussing the use of force during the elections, Jakhar said the recording was “proof of the deep damage being inflicted on democracy”.

He accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of being absent from the state while “Manish Sisodia and other AAP leaders operate with a strategy of coercion — Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed”.

Jakhar alleged that the AAP was not only “looting the state treasury” but also attempting to “loot votes”, adding that the BJP would strongly resist any such pressure tactics.

Asking the State Election Commission to uphold its constitutional duty, Jakhar said the leaked audio must be investigated by an external, neutral agency rather than the Punjab government. He demanded that officers allegedly involved in the “planned subversion of democracy” be immediately removed from election duties.

Issuing a direct message to Punjab’s civil and police officials, Jakhar reminded them that their allegiance lies with the Constitution, not with individuals in power. “The people of Punjab cannot be silenced,” he warned, adding that any attempt to hijack the electoral process would be firmly opposed.
