The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have apprehended a key member of the notorious Gounder gang, recovering a cache of weapons and drugs during the operation.
The arrest led to the seizure of four pistols and 100 grams of heroin, marking a significant blow to the gang's activities in the region.
Commissioner of Police stated that the arrest unfolded during a recovery operation conducted while the accused was in police remand. During the operation, an encounter occurred, but law enforcement successfully managed the situation, ensuring the accused was taken into custody without further escalation.
The accused is reportedly involved in numerous serious crimes, including extortion, robbery, drug trafficking, and attempted murder. The police also revealed that he played a key role in supplying weapons to other members of the Gounder gang, enabling their criminal operations across the region.
The Commissionerate Police emphasised that this arrest is part of their broader efforts to dismantle organised crime networks and curb the illegal drug trade. Further investigations are ongoing to identify other gang members and uncover their network of activities.
The case highlights the persistent challenges posed by organized crime in the area and the police's commitment to addressing these threats to ensure public safety.
