The Jalandhar Police have arrested five people in a 24-hour operation across the city's sub-divisions. Police seized 150 narcotic pills, 50 grams of heroin, and Rs 4,800 in drug money.
The arrested individuals are Palwinder Singh (Sona) from Cheema, Kartarpur; Amardeep (Harman) from Mehatpur, Una; Vishal from Athaula, Jalandhar; Lambra; and Balbir Singh (Bira) from SBS Nagar, Punjab.
SSP Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said special police teams were created under SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath to combat street crime and drug smuggling.
The arrests followed coordinated daily operations in all sub-divisions.
The Kartarpur Police arrested a teenager with 30 narcotic pills. The Mehatpur Police arrested a man who had stolen Rs 2,000 from a fruit vendor and also caught a thief who had been stealing valuables from empty houses. The police found an air conditioner in his possession.
The Lambra Police arrested another man with 110 narcotic pills and Rs 2,500 in drug money.
Lastly, Phillaur Police stopped a drug smuggler driving a Tata Safari car. They recovered 50 grams of heroin, Rs 2,300 in drug money, and the car.
Four FIRs were filed under the NDPs Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
The accused will be presented in court, and police will investigate their possible connections to other crimes.
