The Railway Ministry is set to establish a new division headquartered in Jammu, as part of the restructuring of the Firozpur Division under the Northern Railway zone.
An official communication dated January 1, 2025, states that the Jammu division will comprise several key sections, including Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur (now Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan), Srinagar-Baramula, Bhogpur Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala (excluding)-Pathankot, and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar. The total length of the section is 742.1 km.
"Final jurisdiction will be determined based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR)," the ministry added.
The ministry further outlined that the Jammu Division should be set up as a modern office, optimising the potential of information technology.
It emphasised a lean organisational setup, with all required posts to be filled from the existing Northern Railway staff.
A detailed project report is requested to assess infrastructure needs, organisational structure, and staff transfer modalities. Currently, there are 68 railway divisions under 17 railway zones, and Jammu will become the 69th division.
