The Jammu rail division of Northern Railway collected Rs 30 lakh in revenue in September 2025 from ticketless passengers and violators.
During the month-long drive, the division’s ticket inspectors and chief ticket inspectors caught more than 5,436 passengers traveling without valid tickets or engaging in irregular travel practices.
The action resulted in the collection of Rs 30 lakh in fines as part of efforts to ensure disciplined and lawful train travel.
Officials said that the ticket-checking staff, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, conducted rigorous inspections across trains plying in the division.
“The staffers are working tirelessly to prevent violations and those taking unfair advantage of the system,” said Kumar.
He said that the department is keen on conducting more such inspections and ticket verifications across trains as a crucial part of these measures.
“Such drives also serve as a deterrent against unauthorised travel, helping ensure that all passengers adhere to the rules and travel with valid tickets,” he said.
Such actions have become necessary as ticketless passengers are found violating rules, occupying seats of those traveling with legitimate tickets, and causing unnecessary nuisance to fellow passengers.
The revenue generated through these ticket-checking operations is expected to be utilised for improving services and amenities for passengers in the Jammu Division.
