The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express has ferried more than one lakh passengers within 22 days of becoming operational in the Union Territory, officials said. This marks another milestone achieved by the Northern Railways’ Jammu division, which has been witnessing significant success since the train’s official launch.
The coming days will be crucial as the train runs entirely on electricity and supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for austerity measures in the country.
The Srinagar-Jammu Vande Bharat Express has become one of the most critical links for the region’s connectivity with the rest of the country, offering a faster alternative to both the traditional NH-44 and air travel.
Travellers are paying a mere Rs 730 for the journey (excluding catering charges), making it an affordable and comfortable option compared to airfares between the two cities, which range from Rs 9,000 to Rs 15,000.
According to officials, the semi-high-speed train service has ferried 101,050 passengers between May 2 and May 23, emerging as a popular and reliable mode of transport between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley.
The train was flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 30 and began official operations on May 2.
The train covers the distance between Jammu and Srinagar in a little over four-and-a-half hours, offering a faster and more convenient alternative to road travel.
